Here's something that interests me. It's not quite a sailplane but is supposed to be an amazingly stable flyer (unlike my foamy Cub). It's stripped down for $72 bucks, but I can probably rip everything out of my wrecked foamy cub to put this in the air. Looks like an excellent replacement for the cub. www.hobby-lobby.com/easystar_7008_prd1.htmIt will thermal, and it will fly with the characteristics of a sport plane if you want it to. Very much like your Fox, Mitch. It's like a sailplane crossover. I think maybe it's the perfect plane for me. Plus it's elapor foam wings will bounce off the ground in hard landings and keep on flying. Then I can save my beautiful wooden built planes for when I'm not such an amateur. What do you guys think?

Hey, check this thing taking off of the snow. It's a really good ROG that doesn't need skis. This has a 600 watt motor and it turns it into a real jet! That's good to know.

Everybody's out of stock, but I think this is the plane I'm going to get. I'll update if I find it anywhere.

Found one. A place called RC Planet had some in stock, but almost everyone else is out of stock. $75 bucks, not bad. I have to provide battery, servos and radio, but the motor and prop come with it I think. I'll definitely soup this up once I get better at flying this thing.
So how quick can UPS get to me? Couldn't be soon enough.

Good choice Tony. It reminds me of the pusher trainer "Wingo" that I learned on 8 years ago. Go for it!

Tis on its way. Mind you, this doesn't mean I'm only going to fly foamies now. But it is nice to have a foamy that I can toss around for some fun flying and not worry about crashing it.
I still will always have my fleet of wooden planes. I just want to be a whole bunch better at flying before I try them out. I will also probably give most of them their first flights down in Albuquerque where the altitude is lower and less windy.

Okay, so it took me a week to get to it. But I'm assembling it now. I find that the Speed 400 doesn't come with a speed control. I'm going to have to get one from Hobby Proz or something when I go to Albuquerque next week. A lot of this is just waiting for glue to dry. Kinda time-consuming there.
I think maybe I'll fly my computer in the meantime.

It's done. Ready to go. But it cost me another $100 in electronics, and from what I can see, ESC's for brushed motors are a LOT more expensive than ESC's for brushless motors. The ESC alone was about $60 bucks. Demand is lower for them, I suppose.
I'm concerned because the motor just doesn't seem very strong on only 7.4 volts. I guess I'd better fly it first. But I'm already thinking about a brushless upgrade of at least 250 watts.
I took the Easy Star with me to Albuquerque so I don't sit around the hotel room bored out of my mind, and I'm glad I did. But when I took it to Hobby Proz, they immediately told me the tiny rudder just doesn't work. So they slapped a larger rudder on for me for $6 bucks. Works for me. They also recommended a motor upgrade...but it will fly on a Speed 400. Just not real strong.
The Easy Star weighs almost exactly the same as my Peregrine. It's 18.60 ounces. But it needs some nose ballast because it's tail heavy. So that'll bring it up a few ounces.
I'm also really wanting to paint it to personalize it. So it might look totally different this Sunday. Just for safety's sake, I need a Chuck Yeager again to trim the plane out. Then I'll fly it.

Guess what? Enamel spray paint works on foam. The Easy Star is now silver. Hi Ho Silver, Away!
