I just watched the movie, The Bridges of Toko Ri. I really like that movie, even though it is very old. The mushy parts I don't really care for, but the action shots are from an age gone by. I really love the jets too. They fly the F-9 Navy Panthers in that movie.
What a gorgeous aircraft!
In my office at work, I have a shadow box with all my awards from my 26 year military career. In there is a very interesting medal with a Chinese dragon on it. It is the Korean Service Medal. I'll have to take another long look at it, because a lot of people never came back from there.
But I was remembering, the two times I was stationed in Korea, at that time, the Korean war was less than 30 years ago. To me it was a long time ago because it was before I was born, but there were veterans as old as I am now that served in that war and wouldn't talk about it, because 30 years was only yesterday to them.
Now I'm 49 and it was over 30 years ago that I first went to Korea. And just like them it seems like it was only yesterday. I still feel like the same young man...until I take a glance in the mirror and realize my age. It must have been how those Korean war veterans felt in a way. 30 years really is not that long ago.
I like movies that make me look inward and really think.
Anyway, the model shown above is one that I've long wanted to build. The only problem is that Pat Tritle designed it as a prop job because he lacks ducted fan experience. It is a nice size, but I feel the kit should be converted to a ducted fan, to improve its scale realisticness.
