Due to Mitch's desire to affix his white foamy's fixed landing gear with skis, we put our heads together to design something. The perfect skis I think would be made out of $1 bamboo backscratchers I bought at Jackalope in Santa Fe, believe it or not.
But to make them work, they'd have to be cut down to size and have wheel chocks glued to both sides of where the wheels go. Mitch has tricycle landing gear, so if all three of his skis are attached with struts, then all he needs is to secure each chocked ski to each wheel using rubber bands over the wheel, just like you do on a UHaul flatbed trailer securing a tire with a chain.
Two wheel landing gear is a little trickier, because it has to allow the plane to rotate on the main gear, and I'm not sure how to do that yet. I have to think about it. Probably best to have that fixed too, but in horizontal position only and secured to the fuselage or tail.
I'll see if I can get a picture made and post it here.
As for my sailplane, which is a belly lander anyway, I don't think I'm gonna worry about it. But my little foamy Piper Cub should have skis too I think.

Mitch, I sketched the design and stuck it in an envelope, which is taped to your door at your office. Go get it. If you want me to build you a set, I can do that. Otherwise, are you going to tackle it yourself?

Got the drawings Tony. Thanks... I will be using Suave conditioner bottles, slicing off the cool round sides, but everything else will be your design. Xlnt!

What kind of glue works on plastic bottle material? That one would stump me. Or are you going to screw them with countersink screws or something like that? That would work.

That's cool, but it's more elegant being able to just strap them onto your wheels instead of having to take your wheels off. Still, it's not THAT hard to remove wheels, I guess.
