Do you suppose there is a way to build a wing with flaps and ailerons, and then have a method of immobilizing them when you just want to fly 3 channels (motorized)?
I'll bet there is. Simplist method I can think of is to have a way to slide a dowel or a pin into the flaps and ailerons and leave the servos unplugged. The servos will hold them too, but they can move. They can't be trusted to hold it during flight.
If you look at Hobby Lobby's Telemaster, it comes with two different wings. That's a way too, but you have to build a second wing.
I want to build my Sophisticated Lady with those modifications, as well as a motor in the nose with a folding prop. I suppose if I wanted to do it the Telemaster method, I could possibly use the non-aileron wing from my Gentle Lady on the Sophisticated Lady. But having a method to lock the ailerons and flaps would be much more elegant.

I've thought about this before and thought that if you use metal gear high torque servos, they would stay put no problemo. Then just turn them of on your digital radio and they are out of the loop; AND you can still program and use them for flaps only for landing and such. flip of a switch on my radio. Also, spare parts like wing replacement are super inexpensive so just get two wings. The first idea seems cooler because once you get up and get your sky legs on, you can flip another switch and bingo, you have ailerons ready to go.

Wow, great post. I like all the options you've shown. I definitely think I'll try doing that. Exactly what you suggest. I'll get those servos and cut flaps and ailerons into my wings when I build the Sophisticated Lady.
