I haven't flown for over a month, thanks to either bad weather or being out of town during the weekends that were not bad weather.
I sent up my Easy Star and encountered some terrible disorientation for the first couple minutes of flight. But I gave myself plenty of altitude so that I could recover if I needed to...and I did need to a couple of times. But I talked myself back into sense and got control of the thing, and by the end of the flight I was flying like my old self. And it was a LONG flight too.
I had just gotten a larger 2200 mah lipo for the thing and my flight was easily twice as long as previous flight times, and I still had plenty of charge left.
At one point, the wind, being about 10 mph and sometimes a little more, had pushed me so far away that Mitch didn't think I was going to get it back. I waggled the wings to see if I was rightside up or not, and which direction I was going, and slowly fought the wind and brought it back. It was probably about a quarter mile away. I could barely see it.
I also had a problem with my balance being off. It wanted to porpoise badly at the beginning of my flight, which I think had everything to do with my initial difficulty- not just being rusty. I had to apply max down trim on my elevator to fly right, and even then I still had to apply some down elevator during flight.
I know Mitch thinks this is nose-heavy, but I'm pretty sure it means I'm tail-heavy. So I'll bring some various weights with me for next time and experiment with balance during a series of short flights.
But hey, I landed at my feet, which I've never been able to control that well before.
The other plane I brought up was "The Banana", but I think it is really a modified Acipitor (if that's how you spell it). Flew great, balance was right on, but not enough power.
I had a 7x4 prop, but I will try a 9x5 prop on the same plane. If that's still not enough power, then I will soup it up with a much stronger brushless motor that I have.
BTW, I got the word. I'm Clovis-bound, guys.
I'd like to fly with you as often as I can until I have to move, which will be probably in about a month.
